The Elephant Hill is situated at the confluence of two rivers: Li-river and Peach Blossom River, being as the symbol of Guilin city. The hill looks like an elephant with its trunk sucking water by the river, hence the name. The scenic area covers 14.33 ha. and was listed as the first batch of national 4A scenic area in 2001.
The Elephant Hill is 200 meters high and 55 meters above the water surface. The body of the hill covers 1.3 ha. and being a typical topography of Karst. The vegetation of the hill is well protected. The hill’s top area is the largest in Guilin.
Between the trunk and legs of Elephant Hill, there is a tunnel cave from the east to the west, named the Water Moon Cave. There are a lot of precious inscriptions on the cave. For example, a poem made by a celebrity named Jibei in Song dynasty goes that‘there is a bright moon at the bottom of the river, and on the water surface there is another, when the water flows the moon remains there, whereas the moon wades away, the water flows on still.’
The Three-flower Liquor is known as the best rice liquors in China. Because of the extremely suitable temperature and unique geographical location, the interior of the Elephant Hill has being seen as the national wine cellar from Song dynasty. Three-flower Liquor has the charm which can make you enjoy its thousand-year’s historical culture.
The Puxian Tower was built at the summit of Elephant Hill in the Ming Dynasty. It is a symbol of peace, lucky, happiness and also used for consecrating the Samantabhadra Bodhisattva.
